51. Francis Gerst⁵ Haughey (Timothy⁴, Robert³, Robert², Robert¹)⁽²⁶⁾ (#3653) was born Ostego Twp., Steuben Co., Indiana 07 Apr 1867. Francis died 27 May 1908 Steuben Co., Indiana, at 41 years of age.

He married Louise Hicks Aldrich Steuben Co., Indiana, 07 Oct 1893. (Louise Hicks Aldrich is #3696.) Louise was born 1867. Louise⁽²⁷⁾ was the daughter of Orlando Aldrich and Hannah Hicks. Louise died 1920 at 53 years of age. Susan showed only as Louise Aldrich. HISTORY OF NORTHEAST INDIANA, page 203.

Frank Haughey lived 41 years, earned propriety for himself and family, and left a record of achievement in his community, but for all that his death on May 27, 1908, was looked upon as a calamity and the end of a career which could be ill spared.

He was born in Ostego Township of Steuben County, Indiana, April 7, 1867, and died at his home in the same locality. His father, Timothy Haughey, was born in Jefferson County, Ohio on November 5th, 1824, and died June 28, 1914. Timothy Haughey came to Steuben County in 1843, and was one of the early school teachers in Ostego Township and otherwise a farmer. He married Mary Catherine Gerst, Who was born in 1823, and died in 1890. They reared a large family of children, one of the daughters being the wife of Dr. John F. Cameron of Pleasant Lake.

Frank Haughey attended the public schools of Ostego Township and also took a course in the Northern Indiana Normal School at Valparasio. Three years of his early life were spent in teaching school in his native county, but at the same time he was following the plow during his vacations and working on the farm in section 23, where he spent the greater part of his life. He acquired the ownership of 120 acres there and altogether had 153 acres. He improved the farm with good buildings and since his death it has been capably managed by Mrs. Haughey, who now has the assistance of her son, Dwight.

From 1904, until his death, Mr Haughey served as trustee of Ostego Township. On October 7, 1893, he married Mrs Louise Aldrich, a daughter of Orlando and Hannah (Hicks), widow of Simeon Aldrich. Her first husband was a brother of David W. Aldrich, elsewhere mentioned in this publication. Mr. and Mrs. Haughey have 5 children: Helen Lucile, who is a graduate of the Hamilton High School and wife of Samuel Kohl; Inez Genevieve, also a graduate of the Hamilton High School, wife of Don Isenhart and the mother of one child, Donald D.; Edna and Dwight, both of whom are graduates oh High School; and Laura Wilma a student in the high school at Hamilton. Mr Haughey was affiliated with the Knights of Pythias Lodge.

The late Mr. Haughey was distinguished by a broad minded character, by an intelligence that never ceased to seek information and study problems, and in all things he was thorough. In serving as trustee, he applied the excellent rules of his private life, economy in expenditure, accuracy in accounts and mastery of details, and had a record of faithful performance in that office. By nature he was somewhat retiring in his disposition and did not permit himself to press his own claims for recognition. He was upright and honorable, and the respect that was paid him by his friends and the confidence shown him in his election to the office of trustee was fully justified in every particular and in every act of life.

119 iv. Helen Lucile Haughey (#3697) was born Steuben Co., Indiana 02 Sep 1894. Helen died 20 Mar 1976 at 81 years of age. Her body was interred Mar 1976 Hamilton, Steuben Co., Indiana, Hamilton Cemetery. She married Samuel Arthur Kohl. (Samuel Arthur Kohl is #3698.) Samuel was born 1889. (Additional notes for Samuel Arthur Kohl⁽²⁹⁾) Samuel died 20 Aug 1960 at 71 years of age. His body was interred Aug 1960 Hamilton, Steuben Co., Indiana, Hamilton Cemetery. Susan added Arthur to name.

120 v. Edna Haughey (#3700) was born 22 Mar 1900. She married George Burch Tingler. (George Burch Tingler is #3701.)
