Services for Minnie Olson, 79, of Junction City, were held at 1p.m. Saturday at the Johnson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Steve Absher, associate minister of the First United Methodist Church officiating. She died Wednesday at her home. She was born April 12, 1907, in Parkerville, the daughter of Alfred and Amelia Lebeck Wafler. She spent her early years in the Parkerville and Dwight area, and later moved to White City. She moved to Clear Lake, Iowa in 1943, where she owned and managed the Rogers Hotel. In 1950, Olson came to Junction City where she operated her own rooming house on East Tenth Street until retiring in 1983. She married Howard Olson on Aug. 6, 1926 in Alma. They were later divorced. She was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, White City Chapter 421. She was also a member of Eagles Aerie 830, and the Ladies Auxiliary, Junction City. Survivors include two sons, Alfred Walter Olson, of Liberal, Harvey Howard Olson, of Creston, Iowa, a daughter, Mary Ellen Long, of Clear Lake, Iowa; four brothers, Fred, Roy, and John Wafler, of Council Grove, William Wafler, of Denver, Colo.; four sisters, Lena Day and Marie Miller, of Junction City, Freida Hawthorn, of Wilsey, Josephine Arney, of Abilene; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. One brother, Alfred, and one sister, Bertha Wafler, preceded her in death. Visitation was on Oct 10, 1986 until 8p.m. and Saturday until the time of services. Music for the services was provided by organist Mrs. Frank Trebilcock and vocalist Joel Hofer. Casketbearers were Donald Wolf, Donald Small, Timothy Cowan, Michael Olson, Brian Olson, and Bradley Olson. Burial was in Dwight Cemetery. A memorial was established with the American Heart Association. Johnson Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

A funeral service for Howard B. Olson, 85, of Alta Vista will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 10, at the Kendall Funeral Chapel in Council Grove. He died Monday, June 7, at the Morris County Hospital in Council Grove. Visitation was from 3-9 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, and the family and friends will meet from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Kendall Funeral Chapel. Mr. Olson was born Feb. 18, 1908, the son of John E. and Ida Belle Markley Olson in Dwight. He attended Dwight grade school and three years of high school. Mr. Olson farmed for several years and then bought the International Agency at White City. He later traveled for Mobil Oil Co. in the eastern half of Iowa. He was active for several years in highway construction in Iowa. On Oct. 12, 1946, he married Agnes E. Pederson. In 1956, he moved to Phoenix, where he was a taxi driver until he was forced to retire due to ill health. He later worked as a security officer for private estates in Arizona and retired in 1975. He was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church in Irene, S.D., a 60-year member of Dwight Masonic Lodge No. 318 and the Dwight Order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 318. Survivors include his wife, a daughter, Mary Ellen Long of Clear Lake, Iowa, a son, Harvey H. Olson of Ames, Iowa, a step-son, Hans Paderson of Sioux Falls, S.D., seven grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren. Masonic graveside services were conducted at the Dwight Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Calvary Lutheran Church in Irene, S.D., or to the Dwight Masonic Lodge.
