He married twice. He married Maxine Abbott 02 Dec 1943. (Maxine Abbott is #1812.) Maxine died 17 Sep 1983. Maxine became the mother of Marilyn Kay Olson 14 Jan 1947. Maxine became the mother of Keith Olson 11 Nov 1950. He married Roberta Blanton McDiffett 21 Nov 1984. (Roberta Blanton McDiffett is #1813.) Roberta was born 07 Jul 1922.

Herbert graduated Alta Vista, Kansas, 1941. Institution: Alta Vista High School. At 25 years of age Herbert became the father of Marilyn Kay Olson 14 Jan 1947. Herbert Monroe Olson, 70, Alta Vista, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 1991, at Manhattan hospital. Mr. Olson was a farmer and dairyman with registered Holstein cattle. He retired from dairying in July 1984 and continued to farm until he became ill this fall. He was born Feb. 1, 1921, east of Dwight, the son of John E. and Jessie E. Shaw Olson. He attended Fisher Grade School and was graduated from Alta Vista High School in 1941. Mr Olson was a member of the United Methodist Church and Dwight Chapter No. 318 of the Order of Eastern Star, both in Dwight. He also was a member of Alta Vista Lodge No. 357, AF&AM. He was a Boy Scout, member of Dwight Sunflowers 4-H Club, state champion in the 4-H Wheat Project, dairy project leader of Busy Workers 4-H Club, and a life member of Morris County 4-H Foundation. He was a past member of Mid-America Dairymans Association and Geary County Dairy Herd Improvement Association. He was married to Maxine Abbott on Dec, 2, 1943. She died in September 1983. He was married to Roberta Blanton McDiffett on Nov. 21, 1984. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Marilyn Wells, Dwight; a son, Keith Olson, Alta Vista; three stepdaughters, Barb Crouch, Alta Vista, Trudy Bohlken, Mount Vernon, Texas, and Bonnie McDiffett, Long Beach Calif.; a step-son, John McDiffett, Alta Vista; two sisters, Helen Fraker, Manhattan, and Hazel Zimmerman, Alta Vista; three grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren. Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the United Methodist Church in Dwight. Masonic graveside services will be conducted in Dwight Cemetery. Mr Olson will lie in state from 1 until 9 p.m. today at Kendall Funeral Chapel in Council Grove and from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Sunday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church in Dwight or Morris County 4-H Foundation in care of Pat Andress, Route 1, Box 39, Alta Vista, 66834.
