Dwight -- A man walking along railroad tracks was killed Wednesday after being struck by a train, authorities said Friday.

The Morris County Sheriff's Department responded at 4:27 p.m. to a report of an accident involving a pedestrian and a train in Dwight, about 20 miles southeast of Junction City.

Authorities said the man had been walking westbound on the tracks west of 7th street. The victim was identified as Trent James Olson, 39, of Dwight. His obituary appears on Page 8A of today's Topeka Capital-Journal.

Olson was struck by a westbound Union Pacific train, authorities said. The Morris County coroner is investigating the circumstances surrounding the mans death.

The sheriff's department, Emergency Medical Service, the Kansas Highway Patrol and the coroner assisted in the investigation.

TRENT OLSON

Dwight -- Trent James Olson, 39, Dwight, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, from injuries he suffered in a train-pedestrian accident in Dwight.

He was born Nov. 27, 1962, in Junction City, the son of Albert and Julia Aspelin Olson. He was raised in Dwight and graduated from Council Grove High School, where he was a member of the All-State golf team, in 1981.

Mr. Olson was a member of the Dwight Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his parents, Albert and Julia Olson, Dwight; a sister, Judy Cobos, Albuquerque, N.M.; and three brothers, Bruce Olson and Steven Olson, both of Dwight, and Brian Olson, Olathe.

Cremation is planned. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Dwight Presbyterian Church. Inturnment will be at later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Pawnee Mental Health Services, 814 Caroline Ave., Junction City, 66441.

Memorial Chapel of the Flint Hills in Council Grove is in charge of arrangements.
