3. Pieter De² Coninck (Francois De¹) (#4418) was born Wytschaete, Flanders Bef 1612. Pieter died Aft 24 Jun 1649 Zeeland Prov., Netherlands, at approximately 37 years of age.

He married Anne De Puydt Netherlands, Bef 1634. (Anne De Puydt is #4419.) Anne was born Wytschaete, Flanders Abt 1600. Anne was the daughter of Pawels De Puydt. Anne died Aft 1649 Netherlands. from Susan Musser Minch

From "HISTORY OF THE KING FAMILY FLANDERS TO AMERICA 1300 - 1980" Pieter de Coninck was born pre 1612, probably at Wytshaete or nearby, died after 24, June 1649, apparently in Zeeland Province of The Netherlands, perhaps at the villages of Saint Ann Ter Muiden or Groede. From 1632 until 1637, Pieter de Coninck was listed as a buitenpoorter of Ypers from Wytschaete. (Middle Class, not living in the city, and paying annual tax to the city). Baptismal records of Wytschaete, which begin in 1634, list his wife as Anne de Puydt, and three of their six children. It is thought that Pieter and Anne chose to settle at Saint Anna Ter Muiden, Zeeland Province of the Netherlands in 1648 to escape religious persecution in Wytschaete, Flanders. The year 1648, was a troubled one for Flanders. After years of fighting, French armies captured the southern part of Flanders, including Wytshaete, where the de Coninck's lived. By the Treaty of 1648, the area became part of France, leaving many of the Protestant families caught in a dilemma. They could stay and face certain persecution from the Catholic authorities bent on revenge and exploitation, or they could flee the region. The available evidence suggests that the de Conninck ancestors were faced with this choice, and their decision was to leave. Their new home would be the southern part of The Netherlands. It had the advantage of lying only about 40 miles to the north of Ypres and being under Protestant control. Also there is reason to suspect that relatives were already in the area who could provide some aid in resettlement. Some of the relatives included members of the de Puydt family.
