Birth site: One mile North of the Leon River. Frederick died 15 Nov 1970 Belton, Bell Co., Texas, at 87 years of age. His body was interred Aft 15 Nov 1970 in Bell Co., Texas, North Belton Cemetery.

Frederick Edmond (Fred) Lewis Sr., son of A.B. and Elouise Graves Lewis, was born October 30, 1883, one mile north of the Leon River in Bell County. He was educated in Bell County schools: Rock Church, Harmony, Midway and Wedemeyer Academy. He trained for railway mail clerk with the International Correspondence School. In 1909 he was employed by Fred W. Guffy, postmaster, as a clerk in the Belton Post Office. In 1918 he became assistant postmaster and served in that capacity until his retirement in June 1953.

Fred joined the Belton Rotary Club in 1922 and shortly thereafter became secretary and served in that capacity until 1967. He had a 100 percent attendance for 43 years, one of the longest in the world. Also, Lewis was listed in the Rotary Hall of Fame for three years. After 40 years of service Fred was honored by the club with a "This Is Your Life" program. He was bulletin editor for many years, represented the club at two Rotary International conventions, and attended every district conference during his active service. He was a leader in organizing the Killeen Rotary Club.

Aside from Rotary, Fred's activities included membership on the Methodist church board (1926-67), choir; Belton Chamber of Commerce since 1909, director, and president in 1939; Boy Scout district officer; member of White Horse Band over 30 years, serving as secretary; three terms on the Belton City Council, one as mayor pro-tem; and was an elected member of the Bell County Water Control Board, District No. 6.

On October 8, 1921, Fred married Winnie Reed in Wilson, Oklahoma. They had two children: Jenny Lou, who married Ray C. Wilson; and Fred E. Lewis Jr.

Fred Lewis died November 15, 1970, and his marked grave is in North Belton Cemetery.
